About WaTabi

Last updated: April 2026

Who we are

WaTabi (和旅誌) is run by a small team of travelers with 30+ combined trips to Japan since 2016. From blowing a hairdryer with the wrong voltage adapter in Kyoto, to finally figuring out which Wednesday in autumn has the cheapest machiya rentals — we've taken every expensive mistake and turned it into these guides.

What we believe

A good guide is worth more than saving a few dollars. Most "Top 50 Must-Visit Spots in Tokyo" articles are recycled, never actually visited, and haven't been updated in a year. We do the opposite: every post has specific dates, specific prices, specific routes — and every recommendation is a partner we've personally used.

How we make money (transparency)

WaTabi runs on affiliate commissions from partners like KKday. When you book through our links, we earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. We don't push products because they pay more. If something isn't worth buying (the post-2023 nationwide JR Pass is a good example — we tell readers not to buy it for most itineraries), we say so.
